GAS VOLUME AND FLOWRATE LABORATORY

Quantity - Volume flow - volume of liquid passing through the meter divided by the time unit.
Mass flow - mass of liquid passing through the meter divided by the time unit.
Delivered mass or volume.

      Unit - m3/h, l/h, l/min (volume flow); kg/h, kg/min (mass flow).
      Tasks of the laboratory
The main task of the Laboratory is realisation of volume flow, mass flow, delivered mass and volume units for gas, calibration of flow meters and volume meters.
      International comparisons
The SMU flow standards are regulary compared to secondary standards of authorized bodies in Germany, Switzerland and in the other western countries. Transfer standards - a set of critical nozzles is traceable to the primary standard of the PTB, Braunschweig, Germany.
    Available metrological services
Calibration of gas flow volume and flowrate standards of 1. and 2. orders (with a measurement range from 0.001 m3/h to 400 m3/h). Calibration and verification of gasmeters working with volumetric principle, of gas flowrmeters (with a mearument range from 0.001 m3/h to 400 m3/h). Calibration and verification of gasmeters by nozles sonical (with a measurement range from 0.01 m3/h to 270 m3/h). Expanded uncertainty (k=2) for these given services is 0.2 %.
Calibration and verification of conversion devices for gas (with a measurement range from 0.1 MPa to 6 MPa and (-20)°C to 60°C, expanded uncertainty (k=2) is 0.5 %.
      Methods of measurement:
      - the calibration of standards and verification of ordinary instruments is performed in accordance with the National legislative and the OIML reccomendations. The verification is performed at standard devices of the SMU by a method of direct traceability or by reference standards.

    Instuments in use
For a verification of standards of 1. and 2. orders and for pattern testing the primary standards are used as follows: equivalent volume of discharged liquid with a measurement range from (0.01 up to 3) m3/h and with a total uncertainty of 0.1 % of RDG Bell volume meter - with a measurement range from (1 up to 65) m3/h; a standard drum-type gas meter with a range up to 16 m3/h (a total uncertainty is 0.15 % of RDG); for pattern testing of gas meters rotary gas meters with a range of measurement up to 40 m3/h and 400 m3/h, resp. sets of critical nozzles are used; set of nozzles (0.06 to 63) m3/h - transfer standard, expanded uncertainty is 0.21% (kU=2).
